Two new novels by the Chilean author Roberto Bolaño have reportedly been found in Spain among papers he left behind after his death. The previously unseen manuscripts were entitled Diorama and The Troubles of the Real Police Officer, reported La Vanguardia. The newspaper said the documents also included what is believed to be a sixth section of Bolaño’s epic five-part novel 2666.
More news on post-death publication in the Guardian today and as I’m about 2/3 of the way through 2666 the prospect of there being more than the 300 or so pages I thought I had left to read both scares and intrigues me.
The Morning News’ Tournament of Books started yesterday and the first match saw 2666 seeing off Fae Myenne Ng’s Steer Toward Rock. The commentary takes the sports tournament imagery a little far for my liking, but in conjunction with the meta-commentary it does a good job of explaining what the book covers, without giving away anything that would spoil reading.
